As a provider focused on wellness, it is important to to let you know who you are working with and how we operate as a team. We believe that you should receive care from someone who aligns with your values. Kaleidoscope and this space are a manifestation of unlearning how things “should be” and learning about what truly supports our clients. These are the values from which we practice.
Social Justice and advocacy
We believe that all people deserve a right to care in all forms; politically, economically, mentally, socially and physically. We recognize that we live in a country that prioritizes and values some people over others. We recognize that the world and the system at large impact our physical and mental wellbeing; and that in order to create a more equitable world, we must resist and dismantle oppressive systems. We am passionate about creating accessible spaces in the mental health field and helping people and communities rethink the way they are operating and how it might exclude certain people. Our team members are advocates for more equitable, accessible spaces in their communities and more broadly. We believe in supporting organizations and people doing social justice work in all forms. When learning and growing, we first and foremost listen to the voices of the communities that we serve. On this website we am transparent about the accessibility of our space. Each clinician holds 1-2 therapy slots as a reduced fee for those who are unable to afford our session rate. We highly recommend Inclusive Therapists, Therapist Neurodiversity Collective, and Therapy Den as resources for finding a therapist with lived experience in a specific community.
Collaboration
We believe that we are stronger together. We work with an amazing network of professionals to provide the best care for my clients. We don’t view therapy and my work as just a job, but a call to serve my community. We are always looking for inclusive, welcoming spaces to collaborate with and to recommend to our clients as resources. In the therapy space, we value collaboration with our clients. I actively work alongside clients to co-create the care and change that they need.
Rest and joy as an act of resistant
This world and the systems we live in tend to rob us of our ability to rest and engage in pure joy. We actively support our clients in finding spaces to rest and experience joy as small acts of resistance. Every human deserves to have adequate rest; time to recharge, rest, contemplate, and heal. Every person deserve to have spaces and places where they can experience joy. We actively engage in my own rest and find ways to experience joy. In doing these things, we believe that we have more power to disrupt oppressive systems. Finally, we don’t believe in being therapists who simply hand out coping skills. We may not be able to fix the system, but we can work to figure out how to engage in rest, find joy, and resist in-spite of the system.
Creativity and Curiosity
We believe that by being open and curious we continue to grow as people and a community. In order to build a more sustainable, equitable future, we believe that we must lean into creativity. If we can stay curious and listen to those who are coming up with creative ways to support all people, then we truly have hope for our future. In the therapy space, we value creativity in the traditional sense (leaning on art, the written word, and movement) and in non-traditional ways (coming up with new ways to engage with clients that meet them where they are at). We actively engage in continuing education.
