What is Parent coaching?

Parent coaching is a service focused on creating a more peaceful, sustainable households by changing how guardians relate, communicate, and engage with themselves, their partner(s) and children. Many of the guardians come to parent coaching feeling burnout, overwhelmed, and like they have somehow failed. They are looking to reconnect with their children in a meaningful way and feel more confident in their abilities as a parent. Parent coaching focuses on supporting parents and guardian with tools to connect with their children and feel confident as parents.

My approach as a parent coach

  • affirming

I am a neruodivergent affirming therapist. The world feeds us a lot of “should’s” about parenting, which can lead to parents feeling like they are failing if certain things don’t work for their family. I work with you to help you understand how your child’s brain works and how they perceive and move through the world. I will help you create routines, structures, and techniques that both support your child’s brain and help you feel calm and confident as a parent.

  • Integrative

In parent coaching, we go beyond the behavioral and emotional. Most big emotions and big behaviors are the result of some underlying concern or issue. I work with parents on everything from sleep and food, to getting kids to school on time, to how to manage melt downs. I take into consideration your needs as parents, cultural expectations, and access to resources. Together we will create lasting systems that are both sustainable for both you and your child.

  • Targeted

In parent coaching we have time and space to go beyond the general advice of books, podcasts, and other parents. I work with guardians to understand the specific dynamics, strengths, and areas of needs for their families. Then we work together to find solutions that actually work for your family. I don’t believe in a one size fits all approach for coaching. Every family is different and therefore has different needs. I will help create targeted strategies to support you, your child, and your family.

Common

Questions

how long does parent coaching last?

This depends on your needs. I generally find that most people need around 6 sessions. I keep my parent coaching focused and ask for all my coaching clients to have specific goals in mind. By staying focused, I generally see changes happening anywhere from 3-6 months. Some parents choose to continue or to have check in sessions with me from time to time.

Is parent coaching covered by insurance?

No, unfortunately parent coaching is not a service deemed necessary by insurance companies. I make sure that parent coaching is targeted and effective so that you can spend less time with me and more time implementing strategies and enjoying your family.

Can we work with you virtually? or if we Don’t live in Virginia?

Yes to both! I generally see parent coaching clients via a secure Telehealth platform. I understand that your life is busy and work to see you during a time that is convenient for you. Since parent coaching is not covered under insurance, I am able to see clients outside the state of Virginia. Contact me to learn more!
